Redeemed From The Cursed Life 3

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13 KJV)

Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. (Galatians 3:13 MSG)

Then the Lord will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the Lord bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. (Deuteronomy 28:59-61 KJV)

In our earlier discussions on this topic, we attested to the fact that mankind broke the law of God and as such came under curse or punishment. It all began in the Garden of Eden, when Adam disobeyed God’s instruction. The punishment for that was death. Spiritual death came into force. Man wouldn’t have died physically if he hadn’t died spiritually. Then, the Old Covenant and its laws were introduced. In Deuteronomy 28, we read the blessings and the curses for disobeying God’s commands. The curses were poverty and sickness. In one of our texts, we read that God said He will permit plagues, sicknesses and diseases to come upon His people if they disobeyed His commandments. First, let me reiterate that God is not the cause of sickness or disease. You see, if you study bible topics carefully, instead of picking isolated texts, you get a clearer picture of what the bible really teaches. In Acts 10:38, the bible says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. From this text, you can see that Jesus is the Healer. Satan is the Oppressor. Jesus and Satan don’t work in tandem. 1 John 3:8 says,”…For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil”. Why did Jesus come? Among other things, to destroy the works of the devil. What are the works of the devil? Matthew 4:24 tells us “And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them”. Glory! Sickness is a work of the devil. The devil oppresses. Jesus delivers. Satan makes men sick. Jesus heals them. So when we read in Deuteronomy 28 where God talks of bringing sicknesses, plagues and diseases upon His people for breaking His commands, the proper translation is that He will permit these diseases rather. Ecclesiastes 10:8 summarizes it perfectly by saying “whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him”. It’s a cause and effect thing. If you ignore the law of gravity and jump from a high building and hurt yourself, surely God didn’t cause you to hurt yourself. There is a vast difference between commission and permission. Don’t let anyone tell you God is making you sick or that sickness is the will of God. That’s a lie from the pit of hell. Satan is the oppressor. Jesus is the Healer. Hallelujah. Secondly, take note that all mankind sinned when Adam sinned and all mankind came under the curse or punishment. So the curse of sickness came upon all mankind. Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There is no exception. We all sinned, and came upon the curse.

Sickness is a curse of the Law. The bible teaches that. If you go through Deuteronomy 28, you see that Moses listed some diseases. He even mentioned of the diseases of Egypt and other diseases and sicknesses not mentioned in the Law. That literally covers all sicknesses and diseases in the world. Exodus chapter 9 tells us of one of the diseases that came upon the Egyptians.

Exodus 9:8-11
And the Lord said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh. And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt. And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

Boils was one of the diseases of Egypt. Let’s see others.

Genesis 12:14-17
And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair. The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels. And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.

Here, the bible says God plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues. We may not have the names of the plagues but I believe barrenness was one of them. In Genesis 20:17-18, the bible tells us of what happened to another king who took Sarah as his wife. The bible says, “So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife”. We can infer from Genesis 20, that a similar thing must have happened to Pharaoh’s household in Genesis 12. Barrenness and inability to bare children is a curse of the law. If you look again at Genesis 20:17, you would see that word ‘healed’. That means that they were struck with sickness that hindered them from having children. Today, there are many sicknesses that hinder conception. We have cases of impotence and infertility, low sperm count and all that. These are diseases of Egypt. I recently saw a research that listed about 38 or so diseases that afflicted the land of Egypt. I so believe these diseases were so terrible that our text in Deuteronomy 28 says the children of Israel were afraid of them. God says the consequences for breaking His commands was that sicknesses, diseases and plagues would come upon the people. Remember, all mankind sinned. Therefore, all mankind was sentenced to a life under the curse of sickness, disease and plagues.

But the bible says that Jesus came and took our place. He subjected Himself to the shame of the Cross. The bible says anyone who is hanged on the tree is cursed (Deuteronomy 21: 23). Jesus was crucified on a cross and became a curse for us. That is, he took our place and the curse that was upon us came upon Him. He became cursed. In that way, we were set free. We were redeemed. He took our place as cursed men, that we might take His place in the presence of God the Father. Therefore, we are no longer under the curse of the Law, because Jesus took our place. That means we are no longer under the curse of sickness. We don’t need to be sick anymore, we don’t need to live in fear of any disease of Egypt. Jesus has paid the price for us to be free from plagues, diseases and sicknesses.

Isaiah 53:4-5 (Amplified Bible)
Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

Jesus has borne our sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses. Are you faced with any of theses? Jesus has borne them. You don’t need to bear them anymore. To bear them today is not humility but outright ignorance of God’s Word. He has carried your sorrows and pains away. He was wounded for our sins. Jesus was bruised for our iniquities. The punishment that was necessary to give us peace and wellness came upon Him, and with the stripes that wounded Him we are healed. That’s how much God loves us. He made Jesus bare the curse, the punishment, the consequences for us, just to give us peace and wellness. Therefore, the curse has been broken. All mankind has been redeemed, for the price He paid was for all mankind. I am redeemed from the curse of sickness. I can’t be sick. I walk in health and wellness. Why? “the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for me was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him I am healed and made whole”. I am healed. I am made whole. Glory of God in the Name of Jesus!

Psalm 107:17-20
Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

The consequence for transgressions and iniquities is affliction. In Psalm 107, sickness fastened itself to the people and they drew near to death. Then they prayed to God. What did He do? He sent His Word, and healed them and delivered them from their destructions. Jesus is the Word of God sent for the healing and deliverance of mankind. You don’t have to continue in sickness anymore, dear friend. Has cancer, barrenness, diabetes, AIDS or any other diseases fastened itself on you this day? I want you to call on the LORD right now, and He will heal you. He will deliver you from that sicknesss. You know what God said through His servant John?

3 John 1:2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

God wants you well. Jesus wants you well. Rise up and be healed in the Name of Jesus. I rebuke every sickness, every disease, every infirmity, every health disorder troubling you right now and I command them to leave your body right now in the Name of Jesus. Be healed in your body, be healed in your blood, be healed in your mind, be healed in your feet. From the crown of your head to the soles of your feet, be healed in the Name of Jesus. I charge you Satan in the Name of Jesus, who conquered you, to turn loose every sick reader you have held bound this very hour. Loose them and let them go, and trouble them no more in Jesus Name, Amen.

Lift your hands and voice and bless the Lord. Say this out loud:

Himself took my infirmities and carried my sickness. By His stripes, I am healed. I am made whole. Just as I refuse sin from reigning in me, so I refuse sickness from dwelling in me. Jesus has made me free, I refuse to be entangled with the yoke of bondage anymore. I am redeemed. I am healed. Praise God for evermore.
