Redeemed From The Cursed Life 2

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13 KJV)

Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. (Galatians 3:13 MSG)

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Genesis 2:16, 17 KJV)

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5:12 KJV)

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (Ephesians 2:1, 4, 5 KJV)

In the first part of this teaching, we established the fact that Christ Jesus has redeemed us from the cursed life, a life under the curse of the law. The curse of the law manifested itself in 3 ways – spiritual death, sickness and poverty. It covered basically the entirety of a man’s life – the spiritual, physical and emotional, financial and material. In this post, we will take a look at our redemption from the curse of spiritual death.

Spiritual death came into the world as a result of the disobedience of man to God’s law. Our text tells us that God told man not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, “for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”. Adam committed high treason against God. He sold out to the devil. He disobeyed God, and came under the curse of death. Note God said “for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die”. The day Adam sinned, that same day he died. No, Adam didn’t die physically, for he lived to be 930 years but he died spiritually. He didn’t cease to exist. In the bible, death doesn’t mean cessation of existence even physical death. When you die physically, your spirit lives on. There is an eternity both for the saved and the unsaved. Man is not an animal. Man is a spirit. He has a soul and he lives in a body. When you die physically, you will live on, either in hell fire, reserved for Satan and those who reject Christ, or in heaven with God. Praise God, you don’t have to go to hell. So what is spiritual death? It is separation from God. When Adam sinned against God, he was separated from God. He heard God’s voice and hid himself. Before, Adam would have fellowship with God, he enjoyed God’s companionship but now the very presence of God was a thing to be afraid of. Why? He had died. Spiritual death is the opposite of spiritual life. Sin separated Adam from God. He was separated from spiritual life.

The second thing you should know about spiritual death is, it is having the nature of Satan. Jesus said to the Jews as religious as they were, “If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (John 8:42, 44 KJV). Pathetic! “Ye are of your father the devil” was how Jesus summarised spiritual death. The Pharisees had the nature of Satan. They talked like him, behaved like him and were like him in every way. That nature came upon all mankind, for when Adam sinned, all mankind sinned and when Adam died spiritually, all mankind died spiritually (Rom 5:12). Therefore, any man born into this world had this nature, the nature of Satan. When that nature came upon mankind, it began to manifest itself in the world. First, it replaced fellowshipping with God with fear and shame, then Adam started the blame game, and Cain killed his brother Abel. Man had become an enemy of God and a child of the devil. Sickness, misery, poverty, hatred, lies, witchcraft, all these and more are manifestations of this satanic nature. Any man without Christ is a child of devil. That may be harsh but that’s just what Jesus said.

But God, so rich in mercy and love for all mankind, had a plan. He sent His Son Jesus, who came and tasted death for us.

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2:9 KJV)

For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: (1 Peter 3:18 KJV)

That was God’s plan – Jesus! He came and tasted death for us, for you, dear reader, and for me. The purpose was to bring us to God. So Jesus became sin for us, that we might be the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21). There was an exchange on the Cross. He became like us, that we may be like Him. By His death and resurrection, He redeemed us from the curse and grip of spiritual death. Now whoever accepts Jesus, no more is estranged from God. He is reconciled to God, but much more he is a child of God. The old nature, the nature of Satan, has passed away.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17, 18 KJV)

We are reconciled to God. Also, the satanic nature is gone, and replaced with the nature of God. We are partakers of the nature of God.

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:4 KJV)

Spiritual death is replaced with eternal life. Hatred is replaced with love. Need I say more? We are no more under the dominion of Satan. Colossians 1:13 says we have been delivered from the dominion of Satan and translated into the kingdom of God’s love. We are righteous. Romans 4:25 says Christ was raised for our justification. Justification means righteousness. Christ was declared for our righteousness. Romans 5:1 says “being justified by faith in Christ Jesus, we have peace with God”. What does that mean? It means being made righteous, being declared righteous by our faith in Christ Jesus, we have peace with God. We are no longer enemies of God, no longer sinners, but righteous men and women. We have peace with God. Halleluyah! That should drive fear away from you. Your sins have been blotted out. You are a new creation, a new species, a new type of being never existed before. Glory to God! Jesus has dealt with the sin problem by the sacrifice of Himself. Now there is a new kind of life you can live; not a life of defeat and subjection to Satan, not a life of fear. I have so many scriptures to show you but for space. Stay on this blog and you will find out more. That’s why this blog was set up, to show you the unsearchable riches in Christ. You are now a king and priest to God, simply because Christ Jesus took away the curse of spiritual death.

Let me conclude with this. A Jewish leader by name Nicodemus came to Jesus in search of answers to the mystery of life. Did Jesus have an answer? Sure He did and He always does.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:3-7 KJV)

Remember, I said earlier that spiritual death means having the nature of Satan. That is the cause of all the misery in the world today. What is the way out? Jesus said, “You must be born again”. When you are born again, that nature of Satan is taken away. It is as though (but that is what it really is) you have been born anew, with a new nature, a new spirit and a new life. It is the rebirth of the human spirit. The taking away of the satanic nature and the creation of a new spirit with the life of God. There is a change in the inside of you. The life of hate goes away. The love of God floods your life. Religion cannot do it, education can’t either. It is only God by His Word and Spirit that can do it. You need to be born again. You need to have that satanic nature taken out of you. You need to be born again. You must be born again, dear reader. No more need to live in bondage to Satan. Jesus has set you free, why do you choose to remain in slavery?

Heavenly Father, I want to be born again. I want to have Your nature in me. Take away this nature of Satan from me. Come into my life today and live in me. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and was raised that I might be righteous. I accept Him today as my Saviour and confess Him as my Lord. Thank You for saving me. Halleluyah
