HIMSELF

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. (Matthew 8:16, 17 KJV)

Are you sick in your body and desire to be healed? I show you today the key to divine health. This is it: Himself took our infirmities and bare our sicknesses. Himself did what? The Amplified Bible puts it this way, “He Himself took [in order to carry away] our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases” (Matthew 8:17 AMP). If He carried our infirmities and weaknesses, then we don’t need to carry them. If He bore our sicknesses, then we don’t need to bear them any more. The reason why we don’t need to have sicknesses and infirmities in our bodies is simply because He Himself has borne them on our behalf; He has carried them away. We are healed!

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4, 5 KJV)

The word ‘griefs’ is translated sicknesses, weaknesses and distresses in the Amplified Bible. Jesus bore them on the Cross. He carried them away. He was wounded by the Roman soldiers. They broke His body with whips. A commentary said the whips were laced with bones and each time they laid the whips on Jesus, they curled round His body. The Roman soldiers would, then, pull the whips from His body and because the whips had bones in them, the bones will tear His body in the process. His head was pierced with the crown of thorns; a sword went through His side. He was wounded, He was bruised. He was disfigured by the beatings: “…he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not” (Isaiah 53:2, 3 KJV). The beatings He suffered left no beauty in Him. Jesus was battered. But that’s not where the story ended. The bible says, And with His stripes we are healed. It was this passage in Isaiah that Matthew looked at when he said Himself took, Himself carried away our sicknesses, weaknesses, pains and sorrows. And with His stripes we are healed.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (1 Peter 2:24 KJV)

Isaiah spoke before the Cross. He spoke of the sufferings of Christ, but Peter spoke looking in retrospect of what happened on the Cross. Isaiah said we are healed but Peter said, you were healed. That is past tense. You were healed! You have been healed. You have been cured. You have been healed. Say it over and over until it dawns on your spirit: I was healed. I was healed. I have been healed. Peter didn’t say you will be healed. He said you have been healed. Stop and think about it. Run it through in your mind. You are not sick. He said you have been healed. God is not going to heal you. Peter said you have been healed, that is God has healed you already. You are well. You are not the sick trying to get well. You have been healed. Then why are you down? Get up in Jesus Name, Amen. God has healed you already. The bible says by His stripes ye were healed. If you tie what Isaiah said with what Peter said, you can say it this way, “if we were healed by His stripes, then we are healed”. If I was healed, then I am healed. I am healthy. I am strong. I am whole. Yes, if you have been healed, then you are well. Just think about it. If you have been healed, then it means you are well.

Don’t let sickness dwell in your body or your mind. Always remember Himself took my infirmities. If He took them, then, I don’t have them. If He carried them away, then, I don’t carry them. If I was healed by His stripes, then I am healed.

Some years ago I felt the symptoms of malaria fasten themselves to my body. I was gradually growing weak. I knew within a short time I would be incapacitated. I hate being sick. Besides the fact that sickness is from Satan, I just don’t like sickness naturally. It makes living terrible for me. So I got these three passages we have looked at and began to meditate on them. “Himself took my sickness. I refuse to have this sickness. I refuse to be sick. By His stripes I have been healed”. The weaker I got, the more I meditated. “Himself took my infirmities. Satan you can’t place them on me. Jesus has carried them away. I was healed. If I was healed, then it means I am well”. I couldn’t remember when the symptoms left. I just discovered suddenly that I was no longer feeling the feverish conditions. Praise God! Himself took our sicknesses and by His stripes we were healed!
