The Lord of Breakthroughs: Does He Really Love Me?

And David came to Baal-perazim, and he smote them there, and said, The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like the bursting out of great waters. So he called the name of that place Baal-perazim [Lord of breaking through]. (2 Samuel 5:20 AMP)

What do you do when you need a breakthrough badly? What do you do when you are faced with a crisis that seems so dire and you can’t seem to get around it? Let’s begin a series to look at what to do to get breakthroughs. I earnestly believe God has not left us in the dark concerning issues that affect our lives. In our text, David called God, The Lord of Breakthroughs, because he had experienced many breakthroughs which only God could give. I believe God is opening a season of breakthroughs for His people, and by His Spirit, He will show us by His Word how to get breakthroughs and live in the miraculous.

Let’s begin these series by making a point here that God is love. The fact that you are faced with difficulties does not and I repeat, does not mean God hates you or is unaware of the pain in your heart. Several years ago, I faced a crisis in my life that made me question the faithfulness and love God has towards me. You can’t quantify the love of God, friend. The bible says God has great love towards us. But I tried to measure it by my circumstances. And if you do measure God’s love by your conditions, sure enough, God will fail the test. Obviously not because He is unjust but because your scale is faulty. The proof of God’s love for you is Christ. For God so loved the world that He gave us Jesus. That’s the proof. That’s the value of His love. God loves you no matter your circumstance. Your circumstances may be difficult to explain, yet still count on the love of God. I met a lady some years ago who thought her world had crashed. She was sore. You just couldn’t console her. She was terribly bitter. “Oh God has been unfair to me. Where do I go from here? I am finished”‘ she wailed. What would I tell such a person? I couldn’t even think of how to help her out of the crisis, but, dear friend, David said, “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I”(Psalms 61:2 KJV). There is a Rock that is higher than us. When we are overwhelmed, just run to the Rock. As I sat there, watching the lady cry her heart out, the Lord spoke to me. He said to me,”Talk to her. Tell her your experience, and how I helped you”. The first thing Satan does when you are faced with problems is to make you question God’s love for you. “If God really loves you, why did He allow your husband to leave you? Why didn’t He stop that accident from happening? Why did He allow the landlord to eject you? Why, why, why?”. That’s Satan at his best. I opened my mouth and began to tell the lady my own experience, how that I was at the lowest point of my life, how that I attempted to take my own life, how that I saw no glimpse of hope, how that I hated God and stopped praying and fellowshipping with God, because I thought God was unfair and unjust to me. Then I said to her, “Sister, it was in the midst of it all that God told me, ‘You have a High Priest who knows the way you feel'”. I could feel the power of God enter the room, and for the first time that night the sister couldn’t say a word back. She was literally responding with accusations against God, bewailing her situation through out our meeting with her, but now she could just weep and weep. As I saw the tears flow down her cheeks, my heart was broken. I could feel her pain. I could feel the fear in her heart. I knew God was reaching to her. Then He spoke to me again. He said, “Tell her that I love her, and that I will help her”. When she heard that, she just wept the more. Do you know God changed that situation and solved the problem for her? He did. Few weeks later, I asked her brother about her and he said help arose from somewhere, and breakthrough came for her. Hallelujah! Say out loud, “Jesus is my Burden Bearer”.

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:14, 15 KJV)

Jesus Christ is our High Priest, and He is touched with our pains, our fears, our distresses and our troubles. Let this be an encouragement to you, that you are not alone. I may not know how you feel, I may not be able to connect with your problems, but Jesus does. He knows what it means to be troubled. The bible says He was in all points tempted like as we are.Let me show you another verse

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (John 17:23 KJV)

That the world may know that God loves us as God loves Jesus. Do you know God doesn’t love Jesus more than He loves you? The love God has for Jesus is the same love He has for you. Never doubt the love God has for you! No matter the crisis, unexplainable as it may be, overwhelming and dire as the circumstance may be, the love of God is deeper than the deepest valleys of life, higher than the highest mountains you are faced with. How wide is the challenge? God’s love is wider. Instead of concentrating on your problems, think of His love. The truth is at the end of it all, it is only His love that will give you breakthrough. God loves you, no matter the crisis.
